The phenomenon occurs on roughly sixty percent of mornings during peak season, shaped by the interplay of elevation, humidity, and the westward flow of air from the South China Sea. The topography surrounding Hon Bo Peak is part of the Langbiang Plateau, a weathered basalt formation that defines Da Lat's microclimate. Indigenous K'Ho communities cultivated these slopes long before the French colonial administration established Da Lat as a hill station in 1893. Today the area supports a patchwork of tea estates, strawberry farms, and secondary pine growth, all visible from the summit when visibility extends beyond fifteen kilometres. The peak itself is crowned by a cluster of granite outcrops and low-growing rhododendrons that bloom pale pink in April. A Da Lat cloud hunting and nature morning tour typically departs Ward 12 between 4:30 and 5:00 AM, targeting arrival at the summit thirty minutes before astronomical twilight. The approach follows a network of dirt roads and footpaths that wind through Cau Dat tea plantation, one of the oldest commercial estates in Vietnam, established in 1927.
